How did the magic of human improvement work in Gaul?

Manav Suthar has given credit for his spectacular success to the special preparations made at BCCI’s Center of Excellence (COE). 24-year-old Suthar, who is playing the second match of his Test career and first match on foreign soil, told after the third day’s play that he had done special practice with the Kookaburra ball to adapt himself to the conditions of Galle. Suthar revealed that he was continuously sweating with the Kookaburra ball right after the Afghanistan Test. Before the start of the series, he completed a rigorous 10-day training session at the BCCI CoE.

Manav Suthar said, ‘I was practicing with the Kookaburra ball after the Afghanistan Test. So my plan was quite simple. I had to bowl at the right place, right length and at the right pace. There is some bounce on the pitch here, so it is very important to bowl on the right line.

What does Manav Suthar want to learn from Jadeja?

During the match, Suthar described bowling with the legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who completed 350 Test wickets at the other end, as the best learning opportunity. Suthar said that he is learning from Jadeja how to bowl continuously in the line of the stumps using different angles of the bowling crease, so that the batsman gets troubled and is forced to play wrong shots.

He said, ‘I have a lot to learn from Jadeja. He uses the bowling crease very well and has no answer in consistently bowling the ball on the stumps. I want to learn from Jadeja that no matter how hard the batsman tries, how long the bowler can bowl continuously in the line of the stumps and force the batsman to play wrong shots.
