New Delhi: YouTube is going to make a big change in the way it counts video views. Let us tell you, the new rule will be applicable worldwide from today i.e. 24 August 2026. Under this new rule, the views of a video will be counted as soon as it is played. That means there will be no need to wait for any fixed time to watch the video. But let us know what effect this new rule is going to have on the users.
How were video views counted earlier?
Till now, in case of long videos, the user had to watch a certain part of the video to get the view count. In the current system, for long videos, views are said to be recorded after being watched for about 30 seconds. However, YouTube has already implemented a different view counting system for Shorts. Now the platform is going to implement similar system for all video formats. As soon as any video is played after August 24, it can be recorded as a view from the first frame or second itself.
Will the earnings of YouTubers be affected?
However, the change in the rules for counting views will not directly affect the earnings of content creators. YouTube has not changed its monetization system or earning rules with this change. This means that just by increasing the number of views, the ad earnings of the creators will not increase in the same proportion. The existing rules applicable to YouTube Partner Program (YPP) and ad-based earning will continue as before.
What will be the impact on common users?
Along with this, this change will not have any major impact on the experience of common YouTube users. The way of watching videos, searching or using the platform will remain the same as before. The change is mainly related to how YouTube will record the playing of a video as a view. After this new system, the total views of the video may be seen increasing faster than before, but this will not mean that every increased view will translate into advertising earnings in the same way.
