Nigerian Aircraft Crash: Nigeria has launched a search and rescue operation after a military plane carrying 32 people crashed in Ondo state in the country's south-west. Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo said on Monday that the wreckage of the plane was found near the naval base in Igbokoda. This plane went missing while on its way from Benin to Lagos.
Kiamo said in a statement on social media that the debris had been located and search and rescue operations were underway. Apart from this, he further said that according to initial information, there were 25 passengers and seven crew members on board the plane.
What did the Nigerian Air Force say?
Air traffic controllers lost contact with the plane at 09:13 am local time (0813 GMT). Repeated attempts to contact through radio failed. The Nigerian Air Force said that it was an ATR-42 aircraft which was going to Lagos as part of a routine flight. Rescue teams have been sent to the accident site. Kiamo said he had spoken to Nigeria's Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, and assured him of the full cooperation and assistance of the Aviation Ministry in the rescue operation. Officials have not yet confirmed any casualties and it was not immediately clear the extent of damage to the plane.

25 passengers and 7 crew members were present
All 32 people on board the plane have died in the accident. It is being told that these included 25 passengers and 7 crew members. None of them are expected to survive. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu confirmed the accident and expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased.
