New Delhi: After the Satya Niketan accident, many students living in South Delhi were worried about their safety and accommodation. In such difficult times, many colleges of Delhi University have come forward to help. Many institutions including Sri Venkateswara College, Ram Lal Anand College and Shaheed Bhagat Singh College have made arrangements to provide accommodation and necessary facilities to the affected students.
Colleges have prepared accommodation for students in hostels and vacant classrooms. Apart from this, permission has also been given to use the college canteen for food and other essential items. Sri Venkateswara College, located very close to the accident site, had started arranging accommodation and food for the students from Sunday evening itself.
Arrangements for students by vacating 10 rooms
Sri Venkateswara College vacated 10 of its rooms to provide safe space to students living in nearby PGs. Arrangements were made in these rooms for the scared and distressed students to stay after the accident. The college administration took this step so that the affected students could immediately get a safe place.
College Principal V. Ravi along with the staff was also present among the students in the night. He told that a total of 46 boys and 26 girls took shelter in the college on Sunday night. All these students live in PGs located in and around Satya Niketan.
Students of any college of DU can come
Principal V. Ravi said that students of any college of DU living in Satya Niketan can come and stay in Sri Venkateswara College if needed. The college has not imposed any restrictions to help the affected students. He said that the academic and non-academic staff of the college are working continuously to help the students. Student volunteers are also involved in relief and assistance work. Efforts are being made to provide food, accommodation and other necessary facilities to the needy students.
Many colleges extended a helping hand
After the Satya Niketan accident, other colleges of South Delhi have also started providing their resources for the affected students. Facilities like hostels, classrooms and canteen are being used to help the students. This is expected to provide immediate relief to the students who are feeling unsafe after the accident.
