Nirmala Sitharaman met the President and PM of Singapore

New Delhi. Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday met Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.

During this, discussions were held to further strengthen cooperation between the two countries. Sitharaman has gone to Singapore on a three-day official visit from October 9-11.

The Finance Ministry wrote in a post on Twitter that Sitharaman met the President of Singapore at his official residence ‘The Istana’.

In this meeting, views were exchanged on ways to advance the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and strengthen bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, Singapore’s Prime Minister Wong wrote in a post on X that he had a good discussion with India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on global economic developments and ways to deal with the ongoing energy crisis.

He said Sitharaman also informed about the developments in India and new opportunities for investment and cooperation. According to the Finance Ministry, Sitharaman also met Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan.

Balakrishnan said there are many opportunities for Singapore companies to participate in India’s long-term growth prospects. I wish Sitharaman’s visit to Singapore a successful one.

It is noteworthy that Singapore is the largest source of foreign direct investment in India. A total of US $ 194.68 billion has come to India from Singapore during April 2000 to March 2026. Singaporean institutional investors such as GIC and Temasek have large investments in various sectors of the Indian economy.
