Beaten, asked – Why did you enter my office?
Bureau Prayagraj- A shameful incident which puts a question mark on the working style of Uttar Pradesh Police has come to light from Fatehpur police station of Saharanpur. The police station in-charge allegedly abused, abused and assaulted a 72-year-old retired Deputy SP (CO), who had come here to lodge a report of battery theft from a mobile tower. As the matter gained momentum, a case was registered against the accused inspector on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP).
Retired Deputy SP Sureshveer Singh is currently working in a security company. In March 2026, 24 batteries were stolen from the mobile tower installed in village Badheri Ghoghu of Fatehpur police station area. In this regard, Security Supervisor Rifaqat Hussain had given a written complaint in Fatehpur police station on March 23 itself, but it is alleged that the police did not register the report and kept postponing the case. When no action was taken even after 20 days, on 10 April 2026 Sureshveer Singh himself reached Fatehpur police station along with the officials of the security company.
According to the allegations made in the FIR, at that time police station in-charge Vinay Kumar Sharma was sitting in his office. Sureshveer Singh took permission and went inside and filed a complaint and requested to file a report. It is alleged that Inspector Vinay Kumar Sharma got enraged at this and shouted, “Why did you enter my office pretending to be a retired CO?” It is alleged in the FIR that the station in-charge threatened and said, “Run away from here, otherwise it will cost you very much. I will not even file a report of theft.” During this time, the policemen present at the police station and some other people also saw the entire incident.
According to the complaint, Inspector Vinay Kumar Sharma got up from his chair and grabbed the collar of the retired Deputy SP and pushed him hard, causing him to fall on the ground. The inspector did not stop here, he crossed all limits of indecency and abused the former officer and pushed him out of the police station gate. He was threatened, “Run away from here, otherwise it will cost you dearly, I will not even file a report of theft.”
This misbehavior with a former police officer by the current Inspector of the department has created a stir in the police department. When the matter reached higher officials, the SSP immediately took cognizance. On the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police, a case has been registered against the accused Inspector under relevant sections and the investigation has been intensified. This incident has become a topic of discussion in the entire area that when the former officers of the department are not safe, then what will happen to the safety of the general public. Retired PPS Association officers will meet ADG Bhanu Bhaskar on Monday and lodge their complaint with him in this matter.
