Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has taken the biggest action so far to curb black market and brokers of online railway tickets. IRCTC has permanently deactivated 3 crore 4 lakh accounts (User IDs) of agents and brokers abusing the system through fake user IDs. Additionally, 6.33 crore other accounts found to be involved in suspicious activities have been temporarily suspended. Until the authenticity of these account holders is verified, they will not be able to book tickets.

Booking using fake ID
According to IRCTC, several agents were creating user IDs using fake email addresses and numbers and making bulk bookings as soon as ticket sales started in the morning. These tickets were later sold at exorbitant prices to desperate passengers during festivals and holidays.
New booking rules and security measures
Ban on agents for first 10 minutes Authorized agents are prohibited from booking tickets during the first 10 minutes (from 8:00 am to 8:10 am) after the opening of the advance reservation window. To curb this, IRCTC has launched a campaign since October last year. During this period, 16,041 suspicious email domains have been blocked and 592 complaints related to 4.21 lakh suspicious PNRs have been lodged on the cybercrime portal.
