The CBI team took major action on Thursday in Samastipur division of East Central Railway in Bihar. The team arrested the Assistant Personnel Officer i.e. APO posted in the DRM office red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 50 thousand. After the arrest, during the search of the official residence of APO, unlicensed pistol, 2 magazines and 9 cartridges were also recovered. After this action of CBI, there was a stir in the entire railway board.
Along with the case of taking bribe, railway officials and employees are also surprised by the recovery of illegal weapons from the officer. CBI had taken this action on the complaint of dealing clerk Amrit Raj posted in the DRM office.

Bribe for work related to transfer-posting
CBI took action after the complaint of dealing clerk Amrit Raj. The allegation was that APO Arun Kumar Mandal had demanded Rs 1 lakh for the work related to transfer-posting. After receiving the complaint, CBI started investigating this case. On Thursday, the team laid a trap and caught Arun Kumar Mandal while taking the first installment of Rs 50 thousand. After his arrest, Arun Kumar was taken into custody and interrogated for several hours.
Pistol and cartridges recovered from government residence
The surprise came when after interrogation the CBI team took Arun to his official residence. Where during the search an unlicensed pistol, 2 magazines and 9 cartridges were recovered. After finding the weapon, an FIR has been registered under the Arms Act in Samastipur Nagar police station on the application of CBI officer Sunil Kumar Singh. Apart from this, the police have seized weapons and cartridges.
Apart from this, during the search, CBI also examined many documents related to transfer-posting. Mandal’s wife and daughter were also interrogated at the residence. Both were brought to the Officers Club located at Lalit Kala Kendra, where they were sent back after completing the interrogation and documentary process.

Inquiries also took place in the officers club
Later a CBI team also reached the Officers Club located at Lalit Kala Kendra. Many railway officers and employees were interrogated there. The team has also started investigating transfer, posting, promotion and other files. CBI believes that this bribery case cannot happen alone. More transactions are being suspected in the name of transfer-posting. Documents are being examined in this regard.
After the arrest of APO, there is an atmosphere of discussion in Samastipur Railway Division. Many employees say that earlier also complaints were heard about demanding money for transfer and posting, but no one came forward openly. On this matter, the Chief Public Relations Officer of East Central Railway said that the Railways will give any statement only after receiving the official report of CBI. He also said that Railways works on the policy of zero tolerance against corruption.
SP confirmed this matter, investigation continues
According to Samastipur SP Arvind Pratap Singh, on the information of CBI, pistol, 9 cartridges and 2 magazines have been recovered from the house of the accused. The weapon is not licensed. In this case, a separate FIR has been registered under the Arms Act. The police are now also investigating where this weapon came from and what it was to be used for. Along with the bribery case, CBI is also investigating the arms recovery.
The team is trying to find out whether the officer had used the weapon to pressurize him for transfer-posting or whether it was kept for some other purpose. CBI officials say that preliminary investigation has found strong evidence of bribery. Now in further investigation it will also be seen who other people are involved in this entire racket.
Preparation to crack down on corruption
This action of CBI regarding corruption in Railways is considered very important. For some time, complaints were coming that money was being demanded in the name of transfer-posting in Samastipur division. Keeping this in view, CBI took action. According to railway officials, after this arrest other officers will also become alert. Strict action will be taken against those involved in corruption in future also.
