Patna: The Education Department has taken a major step to transform the teaching pattern in Bihar’s government schools and bring the level of education on par with private schools. The state government is identifying approximately 20,000 of the best subject experts from among the approximately 150,000 teachers in grades 9 to 12 and training them as “subject-expert” mentors. These selected teachers will visit classrooms to observe the teaching methods of fellow teachers and help them adopt better techniques as needed. According to Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, the primary objective of this initiative is to refocus students toward government schools. Additionally, new recruitment is underway to fill 20,000 vacant positions in secondary and higher secondary schools.
The face of government schools in Bihar will change
The process for selecting this special group of teachers has been kept transparent and modern. The department is asking teachers for video clips to assess their teaching style and personality. Furthermore, their academic background and annual performance evaluations will also be considered as the basis for selection.
After selection, these teachers will receive specialized training, after which they will visit various schools to mentor fellow teachers. According to Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari, the primary objective of this initiative is to encourage students to return to government schools.
The classroom environment will change
In light of the changing times, children’s decreasing attention spans are now being emphasized, shifting from boring methods of teaching to more interactive, innovative, and practical methods. These reforms are being discussed in detail during the ongoing two-day “Chintan Shivir” (reflection camp) within the Education Department. In the first phase, the foundation for modern labs and smart classrooms has been laid by building 551 model schools. Now, in the second phase, discipline and punctuality are being strictly monitored, with teachers instructed to surrender their mobile phones to the headmaster during class. In accordance with the National Education Policy (NEP), the system of half-day classes on Saturdays is soon being reinstated. Along with this, new recruitment is also underway for 20,000 vacant positions in secondary and higher secondary schools.
