Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, passed away, breathed her last at Manipal Hospital, Bengaluru.

Bengaluru, July 18. Former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s wife Chennamma died on Saturday. 85-year-old Chennamma was admitted to Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru city on Wednesday night due to difficulty in breathing. He was undergoing treatment in ICU. But on Saturday his health suddenly deteriorated and he breathed his last in the evening.

Doctors at Manipal Hospital said that the condition of Chennamma, who was undergoing treatment in the hospital for the last four days due to difficulty in breathing, was showing signs of improvement. However, during this time he died of a heart attack at four in the evening.

Chennamma was the backbone of the Deve Gowda family.

If seen, Chennamma was the backbone of the Deve Gowda family, which was influential in Karnataka politics. HD Deve Gowda and Chennamma were married in 1954. They have four sons and two daughters – H.D. Revanna, H.D. Balakrishna, H.D. Ramesh Gowda, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Shailaja and Anasuya.

In the year 2001, due to a family feud, Chennamma was attacked with acid by one of her relatives, when on February 21, 2001, Chennamma was returning from worship at the Eshwar temple at Hardanahalli in Holnarsipur taluk. That day she had gone to the temple to worship on Mahashivratri. She was seriously injured in this incident, but recovered after treatment.

Body will be brought to Hardanahalli

According to the information given by the Deve Gowda family, Chennamma’s mortal remains will be brought to Deve Gowda’s home town Hardanahalli on Sunday and will be kept here for people to see.

Meanwhile, former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed grief over Chennamma’s demise. He said in X Post, ‘I am deeply saddened by the demise of Chennamma, wife of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda. As a member of the Janata Parivar, I had a very close relationship with the Deve Gowda family and knew Chennamma very closely. Chennamma was a strong person, who faced everything with courage and without wavering from the difficulties and pain of life. Amidst the ups and downs of Deve Gowda’s political career, she shouldered the responsibilities of a large family and acted like an ideal housewife.’
