New rules for screen protectors
Tempered glass is used to protect smartphones. Every user chooses high quality tempered glass for his phone. Now, it will not be possible to sell smartphone screen protectors without any set quality standards.
New rule of central government
The central government has made Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification mandatory for smartphone protectors. This rule will be effective from 1 April 2027.
New rule for screen guard
The government, in a notification issued on September 21, has included screen protectors under the Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Requirement of Compulsory Registration) Order, 2021. Under this, it will be necessary to manufacture smartphone screen protector as per Indian standard IS 19348:2025.
Substandard products will be banned
The main impact of this new rule will be on the sale of low quality screen protectors. After the implementation of BIS certification, companies and sellers will have to follow the set standards, which will give customers more confidence in the quality while purchasing screen protectors.
Manufacturing will increase in India
Domestic companies will also benefit after this decision. Optimus Infracom is planning to start production of tempered glass screen protectors in Noida. The company will use technology from US materials technology firm Corning and is expected to begin shipments from January 2027.
