New Delhi, August 3. The 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) held in Glasgow proved to be historic for India. Despite the absence of major sports like wrestling, badminton, and shooting, Indian athletes performed brilliantly, winning a total of 39 medals, including 13 gold medals. Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian contingent on this achievement and praised the athletes’ passion, hard work, and dedication.

India’s Golden Performance in Boxing
Indian boxers created history at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, winning 10 medals, including 7 gold medals. This is the first time India has won seven gold medals in boxing at the Commonwealth Games.
Two Gold Medals in Judo for the First Time
India also created history in Judo. Asmita Dey won the country’s first Commonwealth gold medal in Judo, while Harsh Singh also won a gold medal, giving India its first two gold medals in the sport.
Gulveer Singh Creates Unique Record
Long-distance runner Gulveer Singh became the first Indian athlete to win two medals in track and field at the same Commonwealth Games. He won a silver medal in the 10,000 meters and a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters. He also became the first Indian athlete to win a medal in the 5,000 meters.
Mirabai Chanu’s Golden Hat-trick
Weightlifting star Mirabai Chanu completed a golden hat-trick by winning a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games for the third consecutive time. Meanwhile, Lovepreet set a new Commonwealth record in the snatch round and won the silver medal.
