A man claiming to be an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer and having links to National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval has been arrested in Bihar’s Khagaria district. He allegedly claimed to be working as an undercover agent for the NSA.
Assets worth crores including Tesla car and foreign liquor seized
Khagaria Superintendent of Police (SP) Bhanu Pratap Singh told reporters that police had found property worth more than 100 crore rupees (approximately $1.5 billion) in the possession of the fake IAS officer. More than 31 liters of foreign liquor, a Tesla car, and other valuables were recovered from his home.
The accused was identified as Manish Gupta, a resident of Jamalpur.
According to the Superintendent of Police, the arrested man has been identified as Manish Gupta, a resident of Jamalpur in the Gogri police station area. He allegedly engaged in fraud in various parts of Bihar by posing as a senior government official. Acting on a tip, police raided Gupta’s hideout and arrested him on Sunday, August 9th.
According to media reports, “During questioning, Manish Gupta showed a Central Vigilance Commission card and claimed to be working as an undercover agent under National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. He also showed an identity card claiming to be an IAS officer. However, a preliminary investigation found all his claims to be false.”
Police recovered over 31 litres of foreign liquor, a large quantity of beer, a Tesla car (with a ‘Government of India’ board), a Tata Safari, five iPhones, 20 credit cards, eight debit cards, four cheque books and other items from the accused’s house.
Two horns of Barasingha (swamp deer) were also recovered.
AC Bhanu Pratap said, “Tesla cars equipped with FSD are rare in India. We also recovered two Barasingha (swamp deer) horns, the possession of which is punishable under the Wildlife Protection Act.” He added that the police are investigating the accused’s assets. The Economic Offenses Unit (EOU) of the Bihar Police and other investigating agencies are being assisted in this work.
