Kathmandu: A disturbing incident has emerged amid the devastating Nepal floods, where two men were arrested for allegedly stealing gold earrings from the body of a woman who was swept away by floodwaters.

A 41-second video showing the incident went viral on social media, triggering widespread outrage. The footage reportedly showed two men pulling the woman’s body out of the Narayani River using wooden planks and her hair before removing earrings from both ears.

Nepal Police later shared the video and confirmed that action had been taken against the accused.

Police Arrest Two Suspects

According to Nepal Police, the incident involved a dead body that had been carried away by floodwaters in the Narayani River.

Police identified the accused as 25-year-old Madan Gurung and 38-year-old Umesh Chaudhary. The two suspects were arrested near Pokhara Bus Park in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-1 during the investigation.

Authorities said that any act of looting or inhuman behavior against disaster victims would not be tolerated during the ongoing crisis.

Nepal Flood Disaster Leaves Hundreds Dead

The incident comes as Nepal continues to battle one of its worst flood disasters in recent years. Flash floods and landslides near the Nepal-Tibet border have caused massive destruction, with the death toll rising to nearly 392 and more than 1,400 people reported missing.

Rescue teams are searching through thick mud and debris as entire villages, roads and infrastructure have been damaged.

Tibet Also Faces Severe Flood Impact

The disaster has also affected Tibet, where massive mudslides damaged the Gyirong border area. Chinese authorities reported that flood debris buried roads and surrounding areas, while continued rainfall increased fears of further landslides.

Emergency teams in both Nepal and Tibet are continuing rescue and relief operations as authorities warned of additional risks in vulnerable regions.
