Vijay's Surprise Entry in PM Race: Survey Reveals India's Top PM Choices for 2029

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and actor-turned-politician C Joseph Vijay has emerged as one of the top choices for the post of Prime Minister, according to the latest India Today-CVoter Mood of the Nation survey. The findings have placed Vijay among prominent national leaders ahead of the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

The survey shows Prime Minister Narendra Modi continuing to dominate the list, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi secured the second position. Vijay's inclusion among the top contenders highlights his rapid political rise since entering politics in 2024.

Modi Leads PM Race, Rahul Gandhi Second

According to the survey, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the highest support with 48.7 percent votes. Rahul Gandhi followed with 27.1 per cent support, while Tamil Nadu CM Vijay secured 9.2 per cent votes to claim the third spot.

Other leaders featured in the list included West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, though they received significantly lower support compared to the top three names.

Vijay's Political Journey Gains Momentum

Vijay, who enjoys massive popularity as a film actor, launched his political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in 2024. Within a short span, he has built a strong political identity in Tamil Nadu.

Party leaders have repeatedly projected Vijay as a leader with national ambitions. Several TVK leaders have claimed that his leadership could expand beyond Tamil Nadu and reach the national stage.

TVK Pushes Vijay as Future National Leader

Senior TVK leaders have praised Vijay's governance and public connect, calling him a potential future Prime Minister. The party has highlighted its administrative approach and popularity among young voters.

However, the survey reflects public opinion at the current stage and does not indicate an electoral prediction for the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.

With the next general election still several years away, Vijay's emergence in national political discussions marks a significant shift in India's evolving political landscape.
