General Naravane’s reply, “If you don’t trust the government then ask China”, also gave clarification on the controversial book.
Tezzbuzz Desk- Former Indian Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane, in a recent interview, openly expressed his views on the India-China border dispute and the political allegations related to it. He rejected claims made by the opposition that India lost ground during tensions with China.
Naravane said in clear words that if a person does not trust the country’s Prime Minister, Defense Minister, Foreign Minister and Army Chief, then his thinking cannot be changed by any argument. His statement is being considered as a direct response to the criticisms that have been raised regarding the border dispute.
He also clarified the situation on the government’s support during the tense situation between India and China. He said that he had received full support from the government at every level and clear instructions were given to the army. He also said that soldiers had full permission to fire in self-defense if necessary.
This controversy increased further when Rahul Gandhi published Naravane’s unpublished book. “Four Stars of Destiny” Citing the report, it was claimed that no clear instructions were given by the government in a sensitive situation. This issue came into discussion especially regarding the military deployment near Rechin La and Pangong Lake.
However, Naravane refuted these claims and said that the actual situation was different and the army had received clear orders from the beginning. According to him, the Indian soldiers deployed on the border were fully prepared and capable of responding to any threat.
He also reacted to the controversy that arose regarding his book. He said that there is nothing in the book over which there should be so much uproar. He also said that views can differ at different levels—on the ground, diplomatic and political—and everyone has the right to express their views.
Despite the ban on the book’s publication, Naravane said that he found satisfaction in writing. He also indicated that he has moved on and completed his second book.
Amidst this entire incident, his statement not only clarifies the military point of view, but also shows how sensitive and multidimensional the decisions taken on the border are.
