Haldwani, Read: SOG has arrested a 20-year-old youth who became popular on social media by becoming a Major of the Para Special Force of the Indian Army. The youth used to display his photographs in army officer's uniform and fake identity card on Instagram. The young man had prepared his photo by morphing pictures of army uniform with the help of Internet and Artificial Intelligence (AI). After receiving information from Military Intelligence, the police detained the youth from a paint warehouse located in Gorapadav.
According to the police, on September 1, Military Intelligence officers and employees reached SOG office Haldwani and informed that a young man named Rohit Singh Mehta was calling himself a Major of Para Special Force of the Indian Army on Instagram. He was displaying many photos in army officer's uniform and fake identity cards on social media. No information was found in the military records about him being an army officer.
On the instructions of SSP Dr. Manjunath TC, SOG, based on the location of the mobile number, the police team reached Gorapadav, where information was received about Rohit Singh Mehta working in the warehouse of Birla Opus Paint. The police took him into custody and interrogated him. The youth told that he obtained pictures of the uniform from the internet and social media. After this, morphed photos were prepared with the help of AI. Uploaded these pictures on Instagram.
According to the police, the reason for the young man displaying fake identity during interrogation was that he wanted to increase his following on social media and impress girls. Accused Rohit Singh Mehta, son of Khushal Singh Mehta (20 years) is a resident of village Kanikot, Tehsil Pati, Champawat, resident of Hall Gorapadav, Haldwani.
