Tezzbuzz Desk- There was a huge uproar in Parliament on Wednesday over the issue of NEET paper leak and police action against students. Opposition parties are continuously demanding discussion on this matter and resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav got angry at not getting a chance to speak in the House and raised questions while addressing the chair.
Akhilesh Yadav said that the issue of NEET paper leak is not an issue of any one party, but of the youth and students of the country. He alleged that the voice of the opposition was not being given adequate opportunity in the House. Akhilesh said that when leaders of BJP and Congress were given the opportunity to speak, then why were other opposition parties not being heard. The SP chief said in the House, “You made BJP speak, you made Congress speak. Why are we not being allowed to speak? Have you reached a compromise?” He said that on such a serious matter related to students, all parties should be heard.
Government cornered on students’ issue
Akhilesh Yadav, while targeting the government over the NEET paper leak issue, said that this issue is not only about political parties, but is related to the future of lakhs of students. He alleged that the police acted strictly with the protesting students and an attempt was made to suppress their voice.
He said that if the problems of the students are not heard then they will be forced to take to the streets. Akhilesh raised questions on the police action taken during the protest and said that this kind of behavior with the youth is not appropriate. He also said that opposition leaders were forced to go to the Prime Minister’s residence to raise the voice of the students. Akhilesh Yadav said that if his views had been heard in the Parliament, such a situation would not have arisen.
Congress reiterates demand for resignation of Education Minister
Congress MP in Lok Sabha K.C. Venugopal also attacked the government regarding the NEET paper leak issue. He reiterated the demand for the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and demanded a discussion on this issue under an adjournment motion.
Venugopal said that there is resentment across the country due to the action taken against the students protesting in Delhi. He alleged that the government adopted a harsh attitude towards the students and their demands were being ignored.
Government said- ready for discussion
Amidst the opposition’s allegations, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said that the government is fully ready to discuss the issue of NEET paper leak. He said that the government has been talking about discussion since day one, but every discussion in Parliament takes place as per the rules.
Rijiju said that when the discussion will take place, for how long and under what rules, it will be decided by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha after talking to the leaders of all the parties. He appealed to the opposition to allow the proceedings of the House to proceed smoothly.
Proceedings adjourned after uproar
After the resumption of Lok Sabha proceedings, as soon as the Parliamentary Affairs Minister stood up to give a statement, the opposition MPs started demanding discussion on the NEET issue. The uproar in the House increased due to continuous protests and sloganeering by the opposition members. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that both the sides want discussion and the government has also agreed to the discussion. He said that the views of all the members have come forward and will be taken forward as per proper procedure.
However, the uproar by the opposition members continued, after which the Lok Sabha proceedings were adjourned till 2 pm. The issue of NEET paper leak has now become the biggest political issue in the monsoon session of Parliament. While the opposition is demanding accountability and resignation from the government, the government is saying that it is ready for discussion. There are chances of more uproar in Parliament on this issue in the coming days.
