Imran Khan's Health Sparks Concern: Pakistan Supreme Court Orders Immediate Hospital Transfer Of Former PM

Islamabad: Pakistan's Supreme Court has directed authorities to immediately shift jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical treatment, after his family and lawyers raised concerns over his deteriorating health.

The court's order came after Khan's family submitted a medical report seeking his transfer to a private hospital and treatment under the supervision of his personal doctors. According to reports, Khan is expected to be moved to the hospital soon, with doctors. Faisal Sultan and Dr Azma Khan accompanying him during the medical process.

Medical Report Highlights Health Concerns

A medical report submitted before the Supreme Court revealed that Imran Khan has been experiencing several health issues, including fluctuations in blood pressure, headaches, restlessness, rapid heartbeat and severe mental stress.

During a medical examination on August 1, 2026, Khan's blood pressure was recorded at 140/100 mmHg, compared to 120/80 mmHg during an earlier check-up in February 2026.

Doctors have recommended measures to reduce his stress and anxiety, including longer meetings with his wife and access to reading material. The report also suggested a CT coronary angiography for further heart-related assessment.

Dispute Over Eye Treatment

The health concerns also include a dispute over Khan's eyesight. A report submitted by Adiala Jail authorities claimed that his right-eye condition improved after treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), with his vision described as “almost normal”.

However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rejected the claim and continued demanding treatment under Khan's personal physicians at Shifa International Hospital.

Supreme Court Says Khan Will Bear Treatment Expenses

The Supreme Court has directed that the expenses of Imran Khan's hospital treatment will be paid by him.

The decision comes amid renewed concerns from his family regarding his health and prison conditions. Khan's supporters have repeatedly alleged that he is not receiving adequate medical care, while jail authorities maintain that he has been provided necessary treatment.

The former prime minister remains imprisoned at Adiala Jail, and further updates are expected after his transfer to the hospital.
