New Delhi: The box office battle between Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 and Sunny Deol's Batwara 1947 has taken an interesting turn after the Independence Day weekend. Both films opened amid high expectations, but the first Monday collections have revealed a clear difference in their theatrical performance.
While Awarapan 2 has managed to maintain its lead after a strong opening weekend, Batwara 1947 witnessed a sharp decline in earnings on Day 4.
Awarapan 2 Maintains Strong Lead at Box Office
Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan 2 continued its impressive run on its first Monday. The film earned around Rs 9.25 crore on Day 4, taking its total India net collection to approximately Rs 91 crore.
The film had a strong opening with Rs 22 crore on Day 1, followed by a major jump on Saturday with Rs 33.75 crore. It collected around Rs 26 crore on Sunday, showing strong audience interest during the extended weekend.
The action-drama recorded around 22% occupancy on Monday, with over 10,000 shows across theatres. Despite the weekday slowdown, the film remained ahead in the box office race.
Batwara 1947 Struggles After Weekend
Sunny Deol's historical drama Batwara 1947 had a slower start compared to Awarapan 2. The film collected around Rs 2 crore on its first Monday, bringing its four-day India net collection to nearly Rs 28.50 crore.
The film opened with Rs 5.75 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 13.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.25 crore on Sunday. With Monday collections dropping significantly, the film now faces the challenge of maintaining momentum in the coming days.
Awarapan 2 vs Batwara 1947: Early Box Office Verdict
The Independence Day clash has clearly tilted in favor of Awarapan 2, which has benefited from stronger audience response and higher occupancy levels.
Meanwhile, Batwara 1947 will need positive word-of-mouth and steady weekday collections to recover at the box office. Both films feature strong star power, with Awarapan 2 starring Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, while Batwara 1947 features Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Ali Fazal and Shabana Azmi.
