Yashasvi Jaiswal has flopped as soon as he left for Sri Lanka. Team India’s star opener failed to open his account on the second day of the warm-up match against Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) XI on August 8. Opening alongside KL Rahul, Yashasvi departed after just two balls. His wicket was taken by Vishwa Fernando.
Yashasvi tried to play a shot on a ball moving outside off, but it went straight into the hands of the fielder at backward point. Yashasvi had a golden opportunity to adjust to the conditions before the two-Test series starting on August 15th, but he threw away his wicket.
Sri Lanka declared their innings
On the first day of this three-day match, SLC XI won the toss and elected to bat first, scoring 363 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. They declared their innings at the same score before the start of play on the second day. Nishan Fernando and Ravindu Rasantha had put on an opening partnership of 110 runs. Team India had to wait 20 overs to break the partnership. Nishan was run out after scoring 66 runs.
After this, Rasantha along with Pasindu Suriyabandara kept the Indian bowlers waiting for a wicket for the next 20 overs. Manav Suthar gave the second success to the Indian team by dismissing Rasantha (71). From here, Team India made a comeback and took wickets at regular intervals. However, Sri Lankan batsmen played short innings and kept the scoreboard moving. Suriyabandara contributed 35, Pawan Ratnayake 39, while Ahan Wickremasinghe contributed 31 runs. Captain Sonal Dinusha scored 52 runs. Ramesh Mendis also played an innings of 32 runs coming at number eight.
Spinners took 2 wickets each
For India, the trio of Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Manav Suthar took two wickets each. Saransh Jain was unsuccessful. Among the fast bowlers, only Gurnur Brar was successful. He took one wicket for 49 runs in 12 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna went wicketless.
