The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote taluk of Bengaluru Rural district on August 11 following a surprise inspection that uncovered multiple breaches of food safety standards.
The warehouse, operated by Nippon Express, was inspected as part of a special drive led by Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader. The inspection aimed to assess the quality, safety, storage, labeling, and handling of food products under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and FSSAI Rules, 2011.
Officials found several violations, including misbranding of food products, non-compliant labeling, and unhygienic conditions related to food storage and handling. Due to these serious lapses, the department sealed the facility immediately as per the applicable provisions of the food safety law.
A notice has been issued to the warehouse management, and the department has recommended filing a case with the relevant Adjudicating Officer for further legal proceedings. The Commissioner stated, “The Food Safety and Drug Administration Department will take strict legal action against food business operators found violating food safety regulations.”
The department also affirmed its commitment to ongoing special inspection drives to ensure public access to safe, quality, and hygienic food.
This action reflects heightened scrutiny of quick-commerce warehouses and dark stores across Karnataka regarding their compliance with food safety regulations.
