Kejriwal seeks answers from 29 vehicle companies regarding E20 petrol, will go to the public
Knews Desk- The debate regarding E20 petrol i.e. petrol mixed with 20 percent ethanol is continuously increasing across the country. Meanwhile, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has opened a front on this issue. He has announced that he will visit petrol pumps and service centers to ask people about their opinion regarding E20 fuel.
Kejriwal said on Wednesday that he has written to vehicle manufacturing companies to know whether the use of E20 petrol in old vehicles is safe or not. He has also asked the companies that if the use of E20 fuel reduces the mileage of a vehicle or causes damage to the engine, then who will take responsibility for it. According to Kejriwal, he has sent letters to a total of 29 automobile manufacturing companies including Maruti, Toyota and Hero. Three of these companies had said in the government press conference that E20 petrol does not cause any harm to vehicles and there can be only a slight drop in mileage. Kejriwal has asked these companies that if the mileage of a customer’s vehicle is less than the claimed level or there is some fault in the engine, will the company compensate him?
He has also questioned the other vehicle companies whether their vehicles are fully compatible with E20 petrol and who will be responsible if any loss occurs to the customers.
Why is there a debate about E20 petrol?
E20 petrol contains 20 percent ethanol and 80 percent petrol. The government is calling it an important step towards reducing petroleum imports, saving foreign exchange and reducing pollution. However, some vehicle owners and experts have raised concerns about its impact on older vehicles.
The main reason for the controversy is that many vehicles manufactured before 2023 were designed according to E10 i.e. 10 percent ethanol blended petrol. Some consumers claim that the mileage of their vehicles has decreased after using E20 petrol. At the same time, due to high quantity of ethanol, some people have also expressed the fear of it affecting the rubber and parts of the fuel system.
On the other hand, the Central Government says that no concrete evidence has emerged of E20 fuel causing large-scale damage to any vehicle. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has also rejected the apprehensions spreading regarding E20 petrol. He said that if any vehicle has been damaged then its real example should be brought forward. At present, there is a debate going on between the government, vehicle companies and consumers regarding E20 petrol. Now after this step of Kejriwal, this issue has become a topic of political and public discussion.
