Price Hike: Maruti Suzuki increased the price of cars, which models will be affected, know the reason

Price Hike: Maruti Suzuki, one of the country’s largest car companies, has announced an increase in the prices of some of its selected car models. According to the company, from September 2026, the prices of these models will increase by up to Rs 20 thousand. The company has cited the continuously increasing input costs and inflationary pressure as the main reasons for this price increase. This is Maruti Suzuki’s third price hike after May 2026. However, both the earlier increases were applicable to the entire portfolio of the company, whereas this time only the prices of select models will be changed.

Decision taken due to increase in input costs
Maruti Suzuki said in its regulatory filing that input costs are continuously increasing. The company is making efforts at many levels to control costs, but due to inflation and rising production costs, it has become necessary to pass on some part of the prices to customers.

The company said that an effort has been made to keep the price increase to a minimum, so that its impact on customers is minimal. However, it has not been made clear yet how much the price of which models of the company will increase.

Maruti shares strong in stock market
After the announcement of price increase, a positive trend was seen in the shares of Maruti Suzuki. During trading, the company’s shares were trading at Rs 12,770 with a gain of about 0.6 percent. At the same time, during the same period, Sensex recorded a decline of about 0.6 percent.

Despite the weak market environment, Maruti shares witnessed a rise.

Tata Motors and Hyundai have also increased prices
Before Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors and Hyundai have also announced increase in the prices of their cars. Tata Motors has increased the prices of some models by up to Rs 25,000. Companies are citing rising input costs and supply chain related pressures as the main reasons behind the price increase.

These cars are included in Maruti’s model range
Maruti Suzuki’s Arena range includes cars like S-Presso, Alto K10, Celerio, WagonR, Eeco, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, Ertiga and Victoris.

At the same time, models like e-Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, XL6, Grand Vitara, Frontex and Baleno are available in the Nexa portfolio. The company has not yet given any information on which of these models the new prices will be applicable.

Company’s emphasis on localization
Maruti Suzuki Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Hisashi Takeuchi recently stressed the need for greater localization in the automotive supply chain. He believes that amidst the changes taking place in the global supply chain, India can strengthen its role as a reliable manufacturing hub.

Along with cost, he also considered reliability and continuity of supply as important. Greater localization can help reduce external supply disruptions and strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity in the country.
