Neeraj Chopra distanced himself from Asian Games, fans disappointed with social media post

New Delhi: Before the Asian Games 2026, a big and sad news has come out for Indian sports lovers. Two-time Olympic medalist and golden boy Neeraj Chopra has been ruled out of this big tournament due to injury. Neeraj himself has given this information by posting on social media.

Ligament tear in ankle after lasagne

Neeraj told that he had a ligament tear in his ankle during training after the Lausanne Diamond League. After examination by doctors, it was decided that he would no longer be able to participate in all the remaining events of the 2026 season.

This includes the Diamond League Final to be held in Brussels on 5 September, the first World Athletics Ultimate Championship to be held in Budapest from 11 to 13 September and the most important Asian Games 2026.

Neeraj said – I was getting momentum, but got a shock.

Neeraj wrote in his post, "After a lot of hard work I finally felt like I was getting the momentum I was looking for, especially with a season best throw in Lausanne."

he adds, "Unfortunately, shortly thereafter I suffered a ligament tear in my ankle during training. After talking to the doctor and the team, we decided that I will not play for the rest of this season. This is disappointing, especially because I thought I was close to finding my rhythm. But as the saying goes, obstacles are part of the journey. Now my focus is on recovering well and coming back even stronger."

Career has been struggling with injuries

This injury is another big blow for Neeraj. Since September last year, he was suffering from a lower back injury, due to which he was sometimes unable to play this season.

Despite not being completely fit, he won the silver medal for India in the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with a throw of 85.83 meters. Then in the Lausanne Diamond League he made a season best throw of 88.05 metres.

Due to which it seemed that he has returned to his best form again. But a new injury just before the Asian Games has put the brakes on his campaign. Despite qualifying for the Diamond League finals, he will now not be able to participate.
