Technology Desk – Google Account Selfie Video Feature: If you ever forget the password of your Google Account or face difficulty in logging into the account, now recovery can be easier than before. Google has launched a new feature called Selfie Video to strengthen account security and identity. In this, the user can record a short video of his face, with the help of which his identity will be confirmed if needed.

What is Selfie Video feature?

Selfie Video is a new identity verification method. In this, the user already saves a short video of his face in his Google Account. Later, if there is a need to recover the account, Google records a new video and matches the two. Access to the account becomes easy once the identification is correct.

Setup your Google Account like this

To use this facility, first log in to your Google Account. After this, go to Account Settings and open the Security & Sign-in section. Here the option of Selfie Video will appear under How you sign in to Google. Record your face in front of the camera by following the instructions. Once the process is complete, the video will be securely linked to your account. If you’re using a computer and it doesn’t have a webcam, Google will show the QR Code. Recording can also be completed by scanning it from mobile.

Keep these things in mind while recording video

The face should be clearly visible during recording for better identification. Eyes, nose and mouth should not be covered. It would be better to record the video by removing things like glasses, mask or hat. Also, only your face should be in front of the camera and internet connection and camera should be on.

Which users will not get this feature yet?

Google is releasing this feature in a phased manner. Currently this feature is not available for all accounts. It can’t currently be used in Google Workspace, Google Accounts for kids, and accounts linked to the Advanced Protection Program.

You can also delete the video if needed

If you do not want to use Selfie Video in future, then it can be deleted anytime by going to the settings of Google Account. However, after deleting the video, this option for account recovery will not be available. If there is a big change in the face with time, then it is considered better to update a new video.
