Tezzbuzz Desk – Amidst the ongoing news regarding the publication of Congress leader Sonia Gandhi's book 'Belonging: A Journey of Love', Penguin Random House India has issued an official statement and clarified the situation. The company has said that it is not the publisher of this book in India and the claim that Penguin India decided not to publish the book due to the author's refusal to make editorial changes is also not true.
Penguin India said that Penguin Random House India is not the publisher of 'Belonging' in India. The company also clarified that the reports regarding the decision not to publish the book do not accurately represent the circumstances.
'We were ready to publish the book'
Penguin India said in its statement that as a publisher, it is its responsibility to check the facts and give suggestions to authors in the best interest of their book. According to the company, this is a normal part of the publishing process.
The company said that during the discussions regarding Sonia Gandhi's book, its stand was always that it was ready and eager to publish the book.
However, Penguin India declined to comment further on the personal and confidential conversation with the author.
In fact, earlier reports regarding the book's publication had claimed that Penguin Random House India had suggested some editorial changes in a part of the manuscript.
The report said that Sonia Gandhi did not accept these changes and refused to amend the manuscript. After this, an agreement could not be reached between the two parties and Penguin India reportedly withdrew from publishing the book.
Now the official statement of Penguin India has changed the picture of these claims.
Global release of the book will be on 10th November
The global release of Sonia Gandhi's autobiography 'Belonging: A Journey of Love' is scheduled for 10 November 2026. In the US it will be published by Alfred A. Knopf, a publication of Penguin Random House.
At the same time, the process of signing an agreement with HarperCollins India regarding the publication and distribution of the book in India is said to be going on.
Amidst this entire incident, Penguin India's statement is important because the company has made it clear that the story that came out earlier regarding the publication of the book should not be seen as its official position.
