New way of cheating in the name of KYC, ‘Bank account will be closed in 2 hours!’ Saying they are committing fraud, RBI told easy ways to avoid it
KYC scam Fraud: In today’s time, the use of online banking, UPI and digital payments has increased rapidly. But, as fast as the digital process is being promoted in the country, the ability of cyber criminals to commit fraud is also increasing. Nowadays people have also started committing cyber fraud in the name of Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Actually, cyber criminals, posing as bank employees or RBI officials, contact people through phone, SMS, email or WhatsApp and claim that if KYC is not updated, your bank account will be closed within 2 hours or transactions on it will be stopped.
In such a situation, many times customers get nervous and accept their advice and become victims of fraud. To avoid this, RBI has alerted people and told them how to avoid it in some easy steps.
How to commit fraud in the name of KYC?
Scammers contact you and ask for your personal details, on the basis of which they commit fraud. They scare you in this way and ask you to do KYC in a hurry so that you panic and give your details quickly. Once you are ready, scammers send a link, click on it and ask for your OTP, PIN or password. By clicking on the link and sharing all the information, you may get scammed. Therefore, when such a message comes, you should act with caution.
RBI told easy ways to avoid
RBI has shared some easy ways to avoid such scams. If a message comes asking you to take immediate action, stop there. Fake haste is the biggest sign of cyber fraud. You can avoid a big fraud by stopping and thinking for a few minutes.
Another way to think about RBI is to always remember that banks do not ask you to click on any link to update KYC. If any message is being sent asking to update KYC, then it should not be trusted at all. You must first confirm once from the bank’s official website, mobile app or branch.
The third method of RBI is ‘exercise caution’…. One should never click on any unknown link. OTP, PIN and password should not be shared with anyone. Due to this, cyber criminals can take advantage of your details. Small carelessness can drain your bank account.
