Shubman Gill Captaincy Records: A 2-Test series will be played between India and Sri Lanka from August 15. The first test match of the series will be played at Galle International Stadium. Team India, captained by Shubman Gill, would like to win this series at any cost, because the ticket to the final of the World Test Championship is at stake, but this series will not be easy for the Indian team. Captain Gill will have a new challenge in this series. Shubman Gill himself will be playing a Test match in Sri Lanka for the first time. Not only this, Gill has not played any Test match against Sri Lanka till now, so before the start of the series, let us know what has been the record of Shubman Gill as a captain.
How is Shubman Gill's Test record as captain?
Shubman Gill has captained Team India in a total of 9 Test matches so far, out of which India has won 5 Test matches, lost 3 matches, while one match ended in a draw. The Indian team played its last test match two months ago at home against Afghanistan. In this only test match against Afghanistan, Team India had won by a huge margin of an innings and 300 runs. Shubman Gill was made the Test captain of Team India in the month of June 2025 and he played his first series as captain on the England tour.
Batting record has also been excellent
Ever since Shubman Gill became the Test captain, his bat has also been doing very well. As captain, he created a stir in his debut Test series on the England tour. Till now, Gill has batted in 16 innings of 9 Tests and scored a total of 1076 runs at an excellent average of 71.73. During this period, he has scored 6 centuries and one half-century. This figure shows the excellent style in which Gill bats as captain.
Talking about Shubman Gill's Test career, so far he has played 74 innings of 41 Test matches and scored a total of 2969 runs at an average of 43.66. During this period, Gill has scored 11 centuries and 8 half-centuries. Gill's high score in Test cricket is 269 runs, which he made in the Edgbaston Test during the England tour last year.

Shubman Gill was injured before the warm-up match
Before the start of the Test series on Sri Lanka tour, the Indian team played a three-day warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI. Before this practice match, Shubman Gill had injured his finger, due to which Gill did not come to bat in the first innings of this match. However, Gill came out to bat in the second innings of Team India and he scored an inning of 44 runs in 54 balls, which included 7 fours. Team India won this warm-up match against Sri Lanka XI by 6 wickets. Now Team India will start playing the series from 15th August. In such a situation, there will be pressure on Shubman Gill to bat well along with captaincy.
