A woman resident of Kallakurichi district of Tamil Nadu has released a video from Kuwait explaining her problems. Vanita, who had gone to Kuwait for domestic work, has alleged that she was being treated poorly there and was not even given adequate food for several days.
In the video surfaced on social media, Vanita is seen asking for help with folded hands inside a room. She appealed in Tamil language saying that she could not bear this situation any longer and that she should be brought back to India safely.
According to Vanita, she had gone to Kuwait about three months ago for domestic work. He claimed that he was being harassed for the last two months.
Allegation of not getting salary also
Vanita alleged that she has not received proper food for about 50 days and two months’ salary has also been withheld. However, these allegations have not yet been independently confirmed.
The family appealed to the administration for help
After the video surfaced, Tamil Nadu administration contacted Vanitha’s family. Her mother Vennila and other family members have filed a complaint for the safe return of their daughter. The family alleges that the agent who sent Vanita to Kuwait cheated them. Vennila told that her daughter had gone abroad due to financial compulsion, but she was allegedly being mistreated there.
Police started investigation
According to Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police, the complaint of Vanitha’s family has been received. At present, the allegations related to harassment, non-payment of salary and food made by the woman are being investigated.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs data, lakhs of Indian citizens live in Kuwait. These also include a large number of Indians working there. Complaints have been coming up from time to time regarding the safety of Indian workers going to Gulf countries for domestic work.
