The country's leading auto manufacturer Tata Motors has announced an increase in the prices of its commercial vehicles. From October 1, 2026, all the commercial vehicles of the company like trucks, buses, mini trucks and pickups will become expensive. According to the information given by Tata Motors, the prices of commercial vehicles will be increased by up to 1 percent from October 1. However, this increase may vary depending on different models, variants and capacities. This effect may be less on a particular model, while the ex-showroom price of another variant may change more. Therefore, customers who are thinking of bringing home a new vehicle or expanding their fleet during the festive season will now have to prepare a higher budget than before.
Reason for increase in prices
The main reason behind the increase in prices has been said to be the continuously increasing input costs and inflation of raw materials (Commodity Prices). Manufacturing of a commercial vehicle consumes a large amount of steel, copper, aluminium, plastic, rubber and electronic parts like semiconductors. When the prices of these raw materials increase in the global and domestic markets, there is a direct increase in the manufacturing cost of vehicles. Apart from this, increasing expenses of transportation, logistics and electricity also affect the margins of auto companies. The company had to take this step to cover some part of this increased cost.
Prices will increase for the third time in 2026
It is noteworthy that this is the third increase in the prices of its commercial vehicle segment by Tata Motors within the year 2026. Earlier, the company had increased the prices of vehicles by 1.5 percent on April 1, 2026. After this, the prices were increased by 2.5 percent from July 1, 2026. Now with the new increase of 1 percent which is going to happen from October 1, an overall increase of about 5 percent has been recorded in the maximum rates of commercial vehicles in this entire year.
If we understand mathematically, if the ex-showroom price of a commercial vehicle is currently Rs 10 lakh, then after the increase of 1 percent, customers will have to pay approximately Rs 10,000 extra. Similarly, the increase will be around Rs 20,000 on heavy trucks priced at Rs 20 lakh and around Rs 40,000 on heavy vehicles priced at Rs 40 lakh. The final change in the on-road price of the vehicles will be decided based on the insurance amount, road tax, registration charges and discounts offered by the local dealership.
