Political boat did not float in Bihar, Mukesh Sahni is looking for land with the help of reservation in UP
After suffering a setback in Bihar politics, Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief and former Bihar minister Mukesh Sahni has now decided to put his full strength into the politics of Uttar Pradesh. Making the demand of giving Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Nishad community a big political issue, Sahni has given the slogan of ‘No reservation, no vote’ in UP. Along with this, he has given six months time to the State Fisheries Minister Dr. Sanjay Nishad and warned that if the Nishad community does not get Scheduled Caste status before the 2027 assembly elections, then the society will not support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). For this, it has also been announced to take out ‘Nishad Reservation Sankalp Yatra’ in the entire state.
Mukesh Sahni’s party VIP did politics in Bihar sometimes with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and sometimes with the Grand Alliance, but the party did not get the expected success in the recent assembly elections. After this Sahni has turned his political focus towards Uttar Pradesh. He believes that there is a large population of castes like Nishad, Mallah, Bind, Kevat, Kashyap, Dhivar in UP, which can be united on the issue of reservation and political power can be created.

Reservation made the biggest election weapon
Mukesh Sahni says that in states like West Bengal and Odisha, Nishad community gets the benefit of Scheduled Caste whereas in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar this facility is not available. On this issue, he will take out a public relations campaign and Sankalp Yatra in the entire state. In the program organized in Basti, he clearly said that if reservation is not given then the society will not vote for BJP.
Sahni also targeted Minister Dr. Sanjay Nishad and said that he had promised to provide reservation to Nishad community for years but till now no concrete result has been achieved. He challenged a clear decision on reservation within six months and said that if this is not done then the Nishad community itself will take a political decision.
Equations are being implemented from Purvanchal to Central UP
VIP’s strategy is to focus on those assembly constituencies where Nishad, Mallah, Bind, Kevat and Kashyap communities are considered to play a decisive role. The party is especially eyeing districts like Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Deoria, Sant Kabirnagar, Basti, Gonda, Balrampur, Siddharthnagar, Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur, Ballia, Jaunpur, Azamgarh, Mau, Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Pratapgarh, Kaushambi, Fatehpur, Kanpur Dehat, Unnao and Lucknow. The influence of the Nishad community settled on the river banks in these areas is believed to influence the election results in many assembly seats.

On which seats can VIP contest?
According to party sources, VIP is preparing to field candidates on those seats where the influence of Nishad community is more. Although the final list has not been declared yet, preparations for organization expansion and booth level have been started on several dozen seats in Purvanchal and Central UP. Through Sankalp Yatra, the party is working on a plan to first strengthen the social base and then decide the election strategy.
As the 2027 assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh approach, small parties are busy strengthening their respective social bases. In such a situation, how much Mukesh Sahni’s reservation campaign will affect the votes of Nishad community, it will become clear in the coming months. At present it is certain that after Bihar, VIP has now made a big bet on the issue of reservation to register its presence in the politics of Uttar Pradesh.
