Pakistan skipper Fatima Sana was on Monday fined 10 percent of her match fees and handed a demerit point by ICC for her send-off to Shafali Verma in her side’s recent clash against India in the Asia Cup.
Fatima was found to have breached article 2.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel , which relates to “using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon dismissal.”
Fatima had gestured to the pavilion after taking Shafali’s catch off her own bowling, in a match where Pakistan was bowled out for its lowest ever total in women’s T20Is (55) and lost by seven wickets.
With the offence, the 24-year-old now has two demerit points against her name in the last 24 months. Her earlier demerit point was received during a T20I game against Ireland in Dublin on August 6 in 2025.
Fatima admitted to her offence and accepted the sanctions proposed by the ICC International Panel of Match Referees.
Pakistan will face Hong Kong in its next Asia Cup fixture, and a win will seal its spot in the semifinals.
