Dhurandhar 2: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh ‘s ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise has been a huge success at the Indian and global box office. It is being claimed that both the films in this franchise have earned more than Rs 3100 crore worldwide. However, ‘Dhurandhar 2’, which was released in Japan on July 10 after achieving record success in India, has not received the expected response.
The big-budget action film, which was released on about 80 screens in Japan, attracted only 900 viewers on its first day. By 2 pm on the day of its release, only 449 tickets had been sold at 57 locations. By the end of the day, this number had reached about 900 tickets. As a result, the film could not even make it into the top 25 films that attracted the most viewers over the weekend in Japan.
Interestingly, despite extensive pre-release publicity, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ failed to attract Japanese audiences to the theatres. As a result, the film did not even make it to the top 10 list of Indian films with the highest opening in Japan. The list is topped by ‘RRR’ with 8,230 viewers, followed by ‘Saaho’, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, ‘Pathan’, ‘Salar’, ‘Jawan’, ‘Rangasthalam’, ‘Deora’, ‘Baahubali 2’ and ‘Tiger 3’.
On the other hand, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ has done well at the Indian box office. The film is said to be the second highest-grossing film in India after Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’. The first part of ‘Dhurandhar’, which released in December 2025, was also a superhit. It is claimed that both the films have earned more than Rs 3100 crore together. Out of this, ‘Dhurandhar 2’ alone has collected a global collection of Rs 1813 crore in 100 days.
Directed by Aditya Dhar, the franchise also stars Akshay Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, Rakesh Bedi, Gaurav Gera and Danish Pandor in important roles. The film, which has become hugely popular in India, has received a very lukewarm response in Japan, which is causing surprise in the film industry.
