A case of gold smuggling has come to light at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Customs officials have arrested a Bangladeshi national from whom 1.346 kg of gold worth around Rs 1.8 crore was recovered. According to officials, the accused was carrying the gold hidden in undergarments in the form of chemical paste. The accused had reached Delhi from Jeddah and from here he was to go to Dhaka. Customs officials recovered gold from the accused during search. Further investigation is being done in the matter and efforts are being made to find out from where the gold was brought and where it was to be delivered.

According to an official statement, this action was taken on September 12 in the International Transit Area of ​​Terminal-3 of Delhi Airport. CISF jawans found the passenger's activities suspicious, after which he was stopped and examined closely. During the search, three oval capsules hidden in the passenger's undergarment were recovered. According to officials, these capsules were filled with gold chemical paste. The recovered material was handed over to the Customs officials for further investigation.

The value of the recovered gold is around Rs 1.8 crore.

According to the official statement, the total weight of the three capsules including packaging was about 1,596 grams. The passenger was deboarded from the plane and taken to Customs Preventive officers at the airport. After this the process of removing the gold paste from the capsule was started. After completion of the process, a total of 1,346 grams of gold was recovered. Two gold bars were prepared from this. The value of the recovered gold is estimated to be around Rs 1.8 crore. During interrogation, the passenger reportedly told that he had to hand over the gold to someone in the transit area of ​​the airport. After this the customs officials seized the gold and arrested the accused under the Customs Act. Further investigation is being done in the matter.
