The 57th convocation of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi is set to be special in many ways. The ceremony will not only be limited to the conferring of degrees, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also inaugurate online “Param Pragya,” an AI-based high-performance supercomputing facility installed at the institute’s Sonipat campus. This state-of-the-art facility will play a key role in accelerating the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and advanced scientific research.
Prime Minister Modi will be the chief guest on August 8
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the convocation as the chief guest on August 8. During the ceremony, 3,036 students will be awarded degrees in various academic programs, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD scholars.
These students will receive prestigious gold medals.
According to IIT Delhi Director Prof. Rangan Banerjee, the ceremony will also feature the presentation of the institute’s prestigious awards, including the President’s Gold Medal, Director’s Gold Medal, Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal, and Perfect 10 Gold Medal.
This year, B.Tech students of Computer Science and Engineering, Akshat Singhal and Aditya Prakash will be awarded the President’s Gold Medal, while B.Tech student of Mathematics and Computing, Aniket Anand will be awarded the Director’s Gold Medal.
Thousands of students, including 587 PhD scholars, will receive degrees.
In addition to 587 PhD scholars, degrees will be conferred on 1,049 BTech, 567 MTech, 248 MBA, and 243 MS students at the convocation. Students from other programs, including MS (Research), Master of Public Policy, Master of Design, and MA in Culture, Society, and Thought, will also be honored.
IIT Delhi’s major achievements in research, patents and startups
IIT Delhi completed sponsored research and consultancy projects worth approximately ₹600 crore last fiscal year. The institute currently holds 1,871 intellectual property assets, including 1,756 patents. In the past year, 196 new patents were filed, 26 licensing agreements were signed, and 26 new startups were incubated.
Research collaboration will increase with 18 NITs
The institute has signed academic and research collaboration agreements with 18 National Institutes of Technology (NITs) across the country. This will provide students and faculty with opportunities for joint research, academic exchange, and shared access to state-of-the-art research facilities.
