New Delhi: The 18th BRICS Summit held in Delhi concluded with several important decisions and shared commitments. In the Delhi Declaration issued after three days of deliberations, the member countries put forward their stand on issues like terrorism, global trade, environment and reform of the United Nations Security Council. BRICS includes a large population of the world and a large part of the global economy, hence the decisions of the conference are being considered important at the international level.
Strict stance against terrorism
The issue of terrorism was given prominence in the manifesto. In this, mentioning the Pahalgam terrorist attack, it was agreed on the need to take strict steps against terrorism and its funding. Member States reiterated their commitment to combating the financing of terrorism and disrupting its networks.
Discussion on war and sea routes also
BRICS countries expressed concern over unilateral military action and increasing tension amid ongoing military conflicts in different regions. The manifesto called for resolving disputes related to commercial sea routes through dialogue and peaceful means. Amid increasing conflicts globally, this is being considered an important message for economic and business stability.
Emphasis on trade and global value chain
BRICS countries also agreed to enhance cooperation in global value chains for the period 2026 to 2030. Its objective is to ease access to markets and strengthen economic partnerships between member countries. The manifesto also expressed concern over unilateral imposition of tariffs on international trade without proper consideration.
Satellite support for the environment
BRICS Remote Sensing Satellite Constellation Cooperation Agreement approved to strengthen monitoring of environmental challenges and natural resources. Through this, member countries will be able to use space-based technology and data for common purposes.
UNSC reiterated demand for reform
BRICS countries again emphasized the need to reform the current structure of the United Nations Security Council. In the manifesto, a demand was made to increase the participation of the countries of the Global South. The special thing about the Delhi conference was that the leaders of countries facing different global crises agreed on the same platform to move forward towards cooperation and stability.
