Viral Video: ‘Who celebrates like this, brother?’ A player jumped the boundary and fell into the tunnel in celebration of a goal, the goal was also cancelled.

It’s nothing new to see players celebrate in unique ways during football matches, and fans often imitate the moves of their favorite stars. But what happened during a Brazilian club match would be considered one of the most unfortunate celebrations in football history. A player, while celebrating, fell straight into the tunnel and was injured, and the worst part was that his goal was later disallowed! A video of this hilarious and shocking incident has now gone viral on social media.

The defender fell into the tunnel while celebrating.

This incident occurred during a match between Brazilian clubs Coritiba and Chapecoense. In the 41st minute of the match, 29-year-old Coritiba defender Jesse Maranhão scored a brilliant header to give his team a 1-0 lead.

Jesse, overcome with joy at scoring a goal, ran towards the fans. Without looking, he leaped over an advertising board. Unfortunately, right behind the board was a staircase tunnel leading to the dressing room. Jesse fell straight down into the tunnel. The spectators in the stadium were stunned by this unexpected accident. Jesse suffered serious injuries and had to be carried off the field.

VAR ruins the game: goal also cancelled

Jesse’s misfortune didn’t end there. The goal, which caused him to fall in the tunnel in celebration and suffer an injury, was later reviewed by VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and ruled offside. Jesse was substituted immediately after half-time.

Speaking about his mistake after the match, Jesse said, “I twisted my foot there. It’s a little painful, but I’m fine now. The thing is, we center-backs rarely get scoring opportunities, so I lost my temper a little when I scored.”

An interesting coincidence

Notably, this isn’t the first time such an incident has occurred at Coritiba’s Couto Pereira Stadium. In 2014, Cameroon striker Joël jumped the boundary at this very spot during a match against São Paulo and fell into the same tunnel. However, Joël’s goal was not disallowed and he was able to play the entire match without injury.

Brazilian journalist Leonardo Mendes Junior shared a very interesting fact related to this incident. He wrote on social media, “There is one detail in this entire incident that makes it even more shocking. The security guard who tried to stop Jesse from jumping is the same person who was on duty at the time of Joel’s accident in 2014!”
