Tezzbuzz Desk – India has achieved another major diplomatic success after the BRICS Joint Declaration was adopted in New Delhi. India managed to bring together the leaders of Iran and the United Arab Emirates for the first time on the platform of the BRICS summit.
On Saturday, Iranian President Massoud Pejeshkian met with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in New Delhi. Sheikh Khalid represented the UAE in this meeting.
Important meeting amid tension in West Asia
This meeting, which took place amid the ongoing tension in West Asia and differences between the two sides, is being seen as a diplomatic initiative of India. During his address at the BRICS summit, the Iranian President appealed to the forum to take practical steps to counter unilateral and inhumane sanctions.
Pejeshkian said that BRICS should raise its voice for justice. He urged Member States to stand against the tendency to normalize attacks on civilian infrastructure and peaceful nuclear facilities.
According to the Iranian President, any action on such sites is a direct threat to international peace and security.
Appeal for active role from BRICS on Palestine issue
Pejeshkian also prominently raised the issue of Palestine and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. He said that this is a serious test of the credibility and legitimacy of the global governance system.
He appealed to BRICS to play an active role on this issue, so that concrete efforts can be made towards peace and stability in the region.
BRICS adopted New Delhi manifesto
Earlier, BRICS countries unanimously approved the New Delhi Declaration 2026. In this, serious concern was expressed over the increasing tension in West Asia and all parties were appealed to exercise maximum restraint.
The declaration emphasized respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter.
BRICS countries expressed the need to find solutions through dialogue and diplomacy. Also, an appeal was made to intensify efforts to establish long-term peace, security and stability in the region.
Emphasis also on trade and energy supply
The declaration also stressed the need to work together to maintain the smooth flow of global trade, supply chains and energy.
This meeting of the leaders of Iran and UAE has taken place at a time when India is trying to promote regional stability through dialogue and diplomacy amid tensions in West Asia.
